This week our weekend preview comes from Director of Rugby – Tony Wilkinson….

Well, for those of us that were at the match on Saturday v Cleckheaton got to say it was frustrating to watch, the run outs in preseason were good for fitness, Cleckheaton brought us a sterner test. A baptism and now we know what our tests are going to be…
Anyway we’ve licked our wounds and we’re ready to go again, this time away in a local derby match v Doncaster Phoenix. Training again has been outstanding and well attended, with lots of enthusiasm, noise and speed which is exactly what we want.
The injuries to Birdy (Josh Bird) and Will Harrison were not how we wanted to start the season and the physicality of Nick Sydall missing means we have gaps; but they have been filled by debutant Call McSherry who will want to get off to a flier around the park. Josh Holmes has recovered from injury and Joey Mowbray starts at 9.
Great to see another product of the Mini juniors making the bench in Connor Brewster as well. Meaning 13 of our 18 matchday squad has been developed at Scunthorpe.

The 2’s play Ioanians at home looking to back up their superb win at Sheff Tigers with a few of the 2022 colts alumni featuring. They welcome Ethan Taylor back into the mix at 10 and he is one we will certainly be looking as to how he goes in the backs.

3’s are also at home and welcome their sponsor Unite to the game v local rivals Grimsby with a huge squad – soon we’ll be looking to mpush for a 4th team!!!!

Both have a 1500 hrs ko at Heslam, if you’re not coming to Doncaster both offer you the opportunity to get out the house and watch the rugby.

Wishing all our teams the best of luck this weekend – get after them and go well.
