Following the restructure of the leagues by the RFU the new season will look somewhat different for the Scunthorpe Rugby 1st team with numerous teams who usually play in the North league merging with teams in the midlands.

Newly appointed Director of Rugby Tony Wilkinson said: We are keen to see how this league pans out, promotion is the obvious aim. We are looking forward to the fixtures coming out and looking out for teams we haven’t played in league structure for some time, linking up with the likes  of Cleckheaton, Driffield, Ilkley and Heath, I know the lads will be keen to go up to Alnwick which will be our farthest travel but sure this will provide a great opportunity for bonding with the team.
Tony added; I’m sure the committee will be happy that a lot of our travel is around the hour mark so costs on travel will be reduced. The league also provides an opportunity for fans to go home and away without them having to travel over 2 hours to watch.
It may take a couple of years for the leagues to iron themselves out and we have some battles with some teams from within our constituent body of rugby. West Bridgford and Paviors will compete with us for bragging rights of the best NLD club.
All makes for a superb season ahead, pre season is just round the corner and we can’t wait to get started.
