WOMEN’S TEAM

SCUNTHORPE 93 – NEWARK RUFC – 5

Scunthorpe returned to action against Newark women this week . This would be our final league fixture of the season , to clinch the promotion 🎉🎉🎉
The Greenies enjoyed lots of possession throughout the game , tries were scored from set phases , kick offs and attacking flow . When we played our systems and used our dominance in the scrums and line-outs we could capitalise on the momentum and use the ball efficiently 👌🏻
Newark did have some possession but we pressured in defence and managed to limit their attacking systems .
The score was 93-5 to Scunthorpe with Newark grabbing a conciliation try towards the end .
Oppositions Player this week was Ewa for her expert footwork , speed and tenacious running lines !
Player of the match / Coaches player -Becky for her leadership of the team

This tops off a massive season for the Women’s Team . We set our target at the beginning and reached our end goal 👏🏻👏🏻 This was the result of every training session, every tough loss we learned from in past seasons and every time we chose to push a little harder when it would’ve been easier not to. Everyone played a part in getting us here 💚💚
Thank you to our coaching team , loyal supporter’s and families who are there week in week out , we appreciate you all 🫶🏻

DEVELOPMENT

SCUNTHORPE 14 – DRIFFIELD 22

The Development team travelled down to Beverley for the league final in which they faced Driffield after both teams beat both Hull Ionians and Malton and Norton repectfully.

Driffield got the match underway and it would be Driffield who would get the first try, after 2 yellow cards Driffield were on the front foot, a flat pass to their big ball carrying centre saw him brush past a couple of defenders to score the first try of the match, conversion was successful and the score was now 7-0 to Driffield.

Another penalty was conceded by Scunthorpe and Driffield elected to go for the 3 points, this was successfully converted by the fly half and Driffield took a 10-0 lead.

Scunthorpe answered back just before half-time with a well worked try, after a penalty was conceded by Driffield, Scunthorpe decided to kick for the corner, the maul was successfully sacked adn Scunthorpe went for a couple of pick and go’s across the 5 metre line, Robbie Johnson ran an inside line and usewd his strength to dive over and score Scunthorpe’s first try of the match, conversion was successful and the score was now 10-7 at the end of the first half.

Driffield started the second half strongly and was rewarded with their pressure, it came through some good hands from the backs created an overlap for them to run in and score, conversion was unsuccessful and the score was now 17-0.

Scunthorpe answered back and it came from sustained pressure, a kick through was collected by Keiron Riley who beats the fullback and dives over in the middle of the sticks, conversion was successful and the score was now 17-14.

Driffield put the game to bed after a good kick through saw Scunthorpe collect the ball but were put into touch, a lineout was awarded to Driffield and they successfully took it, quick hands from the 10 saw the prop go in unmarked and that sealed the league for Driffield.

This was the Development teams last game of the season and even though they did not come home as winners, they should hold their heads up high in what has been a successful season for them.

Credit goes to the winners Driffield who stayed top of the table for most of the season and on the day executed their chances.
