On a fine sunny day in West Yorkshire the Scunthorpe team arrived along with a double decker coach of supporters there to cheers The Greens to victory. Knowing that only a win would ensure promotion. The start team showed on 1 change from the previous encounter v Cleckheaton in September. Scunthorpe received the kick off. With a coolish wind and sun behind them. Cleckheaton set off at a pace and had the greens pinned down in their own 22 for the 1st 5 mins but a dropped ball saw Ethan Heath Drury hack through sending Josh Lugsden chase the ball only for Cleckheaton to clear their lines from their 5 metre line. From the ensuing line out, Hyde took the ball, fed it back to Joey Mowbrey who brought the backs into play. The ball went out to the wing for Lewis Talbot score in the corner.

From the kickoff Scunthorpe were unable to gather the ball and knocked on. From the Cleckheaton scrum the ball got to the centre and one missed tackle saw Cleckheaton score a try, again conversion missed.

Scunthorpe then started getting on top and from a break, a penalty was given for a high tackle, a quick tap penalty and another high tackle saw the referee lose patience with the Cleckheaton players and give a yellow card to the Cleckheaton forward. Scunthorpe kicked for the corner and a catch and drive saw Cleckheaton infringe again and Scunthorpe reverted to a Bridlington from 7 metres out. With James Dyson going over the line. Scunthorpe received the ball again and as was the play most of the afternoon Cleckheaton gave away another high tackle penalty. Play continued for a period with Scunthorpe in the ascendency. From a wayward line out Cleckheaton gathered the loose ball and ran at the Scunthorpe defence but a great tackle saw Scunthorpe jackal and turn the ball over, swift hands saw Lewis Talbot get the ball and with a piece of individual brilliance beat the cover defence with a chip over to gather the ball and score again in the corner. Not converted.

Play then continued with Scunthorpe in the ascendency but being unable to break down a resolute Cleckheaton defence. Cleckheaton then made a breakout from their 22 only to be tackled and penalised for holding onto the ball. Scunthorpe being a bit more pragmatic from earlier in the season took a penalty in front of the posts on the opposition 22 this was converted by Ethan Taylor Cleckheaton 5 Scunthorpe 20. 38 mins. The 1st half then petered out leaving Scunthorpe ahead at half time.
The 2nd half continued with Scunthorpe in the ascendency, however, Cleckheaton continued to defend manfully until after numerous breaks and rucks the ball came out to Lawrence Pearce for him to cross the line for the 1st score of the 2nd half. Conversion not made.

Scunthorpe then started having to defend in their own half for a brief period. A line out saw Scunthorpe break out with a line break by James Dyson who was tackled but managed to flipped the ball into Lawrence Pearces hands who then rolled back the years to run from his own 22 to within metres of the Cleckheaton line only to be hauled down but a quick ruck ball found James Dyson go over the line having picked himself up from the earlier tackle. Conversion missed.

The game continued In the same vain with Cleckheaton defending and Scunthorpe attacking until Cleckheaton lost the ball at another Scunthorpe turn over and with the ball coming down the line saw Will Robinson show the Cleckheaton defence a clean pair of heels but in the act of scoring a Cleckheaton player then hit Will as he was going down but not preventing him scoring the try.

The half then continued but without further scores which meant that after a long hard season The Greens had led the league from start to finish a remarkable feat in itself. Mentions go to Tim Robinson, and all his support staff including the Physios. A great task now will be to start next season at level 4. No Man of the Match this week as all 18 players played a big part in seeing the victory over the line to win the League.
