SCUNTHORPE 43 – WHARFEDALE 47

Scunthorpe welcomed Wharfedale for their final home game of the season, if Scunny want to stay up a win today is a must.

Four chnages were made to the starting XV with Matthew Mason returning to hooker to replace Olly Arnold, Dan Longden comes in to replace Nick dyson at second row, Rory Rendall-Tyrell starts at Flanker replacing James Dyson and Will Dark returns at outside centre moving Jack Murr to inside centre replacing Laurence Pearce.

The bench had 4/5 change as well with the likes of Harry Wright, Guy Mychajluk, Keiran O’Meara and Jack Leggate all making a return to the first team.

Kick off is underway and it was the visitors who grabbed the first try, it was a nice inside pass by the 10 to the 13 who broke through the defence and a simple pass back inside saw the scrum half dive over in between the post to score the first try of match, conversion was successful and the score was now 7-0 to the visitors.

Wharfedale grabbed their second soon after a grubber through the defence, the ball bounced kindly up for the reciever who dives over the line to score, conversion was successful and thescore was now 14-0 to Wharfedale.

Wharfedale continued to extend their lead and it would be their scrum half again after he spots a gap around the breakdown, he snipes through and uses his pace to beat the rest of the defence to score under the post, conversion was unsuccessful and the score was now 21-0 to Wharfedale.

Scunthorpe would get their first try of the game and it came from Will Robinson, after a couple of carries by the forwards in the middle of the park put Wharfedale on the back foot, the backs use quick hands and finds Marcus Payne who draws in the last defenders and offloads the ball to Will who runs in and scores, conversion was unsuccessful and the score was now 21-5 to Scunthorpe.

Wharfedale grabbed their try bonus point after some nice hands from the backs opened up the defence on the outside and the winger dive over to score the visitors fourth try of the match, conversion was unsuccessful and the score was now 26-5 to Wharfedale.

Scunthorpe answered back and their second try came when they were awarded a scrum midfield the ball travels through the hands of the backs and Joey breaches the defence, a pass back inside to Marcus saw him dive over to score, conversion was successful and the score was now 26-12 to Wharfedale.

The visitors grabbed a fifth try, when Wharfedale looked to have spilled the ball forwards he manged to0 regather the ball and was now metres away from the tryline, Scunthorpe conceded the penalty and Wharfedale opted to go for the corner, they went for the catch and drive and scored, conversion was successful and the score was now 38-12 to the visitors.

Just before half time, Wharfedale grabbed another, after soem soft defence by Scunthorpe saw the prop make a half break who offloaded the ball to the scrum half, he then used some good footwork and offloaded it ot the 10 the ref called the tackle to be not held and the 10 dived over to score.

Scunthorpe would grab a try soon after a miss kick went out in the full, the home side decided to go for the catch and drive and were making metres fast, the ball was then shipped out to the backs and Ethan Heath-Drury scored to make the score 40-17 to the visitors at the end of the half.

The second half was underway and it was Scunthorpe got the first try of the half after going coast to coast Jack Murr was tackled just short of the line Joey passes the ball to Alfie Taylor who uses his strength to dives over to score his first try of the match, conversion was successful and the score is now 40-24 to Wharfedale.

Scunthorpe would grab another try and this time it came from a kick in the midfield that found grass and bounced into Alfie’s hands who offloads to Ethan Heath-Drury who uses his pace to score his second of the match, conversion was successful and the score was now 40-31.

The home side grabbed another after keeping the ball alive in the middle of the park the ball finds Marcus who breaks through, he offloads it to Will Robinson who uses his pace to beat the rest of the defence and score, conversion was successful and the score was now 40-38.

Wharfedale grabbed their first try of the half and it came from an individual burst, the player beat a few players through the tackle and scored, conversion was successful and the score was now 47-38.

Scunthorpe would grab the final try of the match and it was Will Robinson to complete his hat trick, Scunthorpe again kept the ball alive well and a miss match was created on the far wing which allowed Will Robinson to dive over, conversion was unsuccessful and the ref blew for full time.

SCUNTHORPE 40 – HULL IONIANS 0

The devs were dwon at Oglesby Park for the semi final match against Hull Ionians.

The match kicked off and was underway and neither team was showing signs of being complacent, but it would be the home side who would grab the first try of the match and it came from Cam James, the ball was gaining yards through the forwards, an overlap was created on the far side and a flat pass broke to Cam broke the rest of the defence to score the first try of the match, conversion was successful and the score was now 7-0 to the home side.

Scunthorpe would add another and it came from Cam James again, it came from a scrum in the middle of the park, a lovely inside pass caught Hull’s defence flat footed, some good footwork beat the scraggling defence and Cam dived over to score his second in the match, conversion was successful and the score was now 14-0 to Scunthorpe.

Scunthorpe added another and it came from George Cundell a break was made by Cam who used his strength to get passed some players, he was caught metres from the line, Cam manges to get his hands free and passes the ball to George who dives over to score hsi first try, conversion was successful and the score was now 21-0 to Scunthorpe.

The first half came to an end and Scunthorpe took a comfortable lead leading Hull 21-0

The second half kicked off and Scunthorpe continued to pile on the pressure and it would be Cam James again to score his third try of the match, it came from a lineout inside the 22 that was taken successfully, some quick hands through the backs saw Cam run through and score, conversion was unsuccessful and the score was now 26-0.

Scunthorpe grabbed another soon after, a break was made and created a 2 on 1, the ball was given to Cam Ogg on the inside and scored, conversion was unsuccessful and the score was now 33-0 to Scunthorpe.

Scunthorpe would get one more try after an idnvidual lung-busting run from 60 metres out, conversion was successful and the score was now 40-0 to Scunthorpe.

The Devs saw the game out and kicked the ball out, the ref blew for full time, the final score was 40-0.

Scunthorpe are now in the final against Driffield who beat Malton and Norton on the same day, the final will be played at Beverley.
