GAINSBOROUGH 7 – SCUNTHORPE 3rds 19

Away at Gainsborough, we all assumed it would be terrible conditions but as we know god loves rugby and the rain held off.

We started as normally very lethargic, Gainsborough defended well and we was pretty much stalemate for the first 20 mins then Coel Gosling did some back stuff and went over in the corner.

Conversion by coel, 0-7

Straight away Gainsborough answered back after a missed tackle and scored between the posts 7-7

We seemed to be locked around the half way line, then little Charley Aitkenhead shot over in the corner which coel converted, 7-14

Half time

Bomb squad brought on, heavy carries and some bonecrutching tackles, we were camped in Gainsborough half but couldn’t seem to get over the line.

After a few injuries, Carl Duffin reliving his youthfulness went into the scrum half position. And he and Rick Robbo made the perfect team using big bad Guy Mychajluk as a wrecking ball throwing players left and right then off loading to Gui Abreu to go over in the corner.
Conversion missed. 7-19

SCUNTHORPE 15 – MANSFIELD 40

Scunthorpe U13s travelled away to Mansfield today for their NLD cup fixture and although the game finsihed 15-40, the scoreline doesn’t tell the full story.

Posession was balanced, the effort was huge, and the boys played with real heart from start to finish.

Scunthorpe actually opened the scoring with Jack Everingham crossing early to set the tone.

Teddy Taylor then powered in for the second , continuing his run of strong, physical performances this season.

A big moment came from Kye Martin, who not only grabbed a fantastic solo try, sprinting half the pitch down the wing but also earned player of the match and a special mention from the Mansfield coach. Kye’s new to the squad and new to rugby, yet he played with brilliant speed, power and control.

Across the pitch, there were several stand out contributions: Oscar Stone, Logan Barraclough, Jack Bennett and Major Davison all put in big tackles, brave carries and showed real work rate throughout the game.

We also saw a strong performance from Zayne Ali, who was clearly buzzing after his trip to Twickenham the day before to watch England beat the All Blacks and he brought that energy straight onto the pitch.

Full credit to Mansfield too, they had a few exceptional players including one very biug lad who was extremely hard to bring down, thier physicality showed in parts but didn’t shy away from the challenge and kept fronting up all game.

Today’s captain Taylor Moore led well, communicated strongly, and kicked smartly under pressure.

The teams overall shape, attitude, and willingness to graft for each other was great to see.

Scunthorpe u13s are a developing team with a lot of new players this season, and you can see the improvement week by week.

The boys are gelling well. understanding their roles, and showing real promise as the season builds.

A tough result, but a performance full of positives, pride and progress. The future is looking bright for this Under 13s squad!
